my car (1.8 16v kr) has the following problem:
when i try to start the car when cold it is very dificoult to get it running(3-4 times) and when the car finaly starts its runing on 3 cylinders(it seams) and when i rev the car for a few times then the car runs fine. the car pulls like a train,no running problems whatsoever and when the car is turned off for a few minutes (when hot) it starts fine afterwards. it seams that this hapens when the car is cold.also to start the car i have to press the gas pedal a bit(just to give it some fuel) .tha car smells like gas afterwards but it goes away in a few minutes. a local vw specialist [8(] tryed to adjust the car but it got much worce after that so i replaced the mattering head with another one witch i took of a friends car (witch was runing perfectly) replaced the fuel injectors with new items, idle stabilizer valve, cold start valve, fuel filter but the problem is still there! PLEASE HELP!!!

    - Check for air leaks in the inlet circuit between the metering head and the cylinder head
    - Check the electric fuel pump

You should check the control pressure and check forleaks in the main fuel system, but you need VAG 1318 tool for this or something similar..

sounds like leaky injectors, try pulling the plug off the 5th injector see if that helps (blue thing, end of inlet manifold)

    injector test:

tip for you, rather than bridign pump relay simply swap the #18 relay into the #67 socket, this will switch on the fuel pumps with the ignition. pull the black wires off the coil to ensure there are no sparks

if one or more are bad just replace the lot, look on ebay for mercedes brass injectors direct swap, but no air shrouding (doesnt do much so no great loss)

the injectors were checked and replaced a month ago with new items.as far as the fifth injector it was desconected by the previus owner of the car as the cold start valve was faulty and i replaced it with a new item and connected it again...

double check it, perhaps the thermoswitch has failed so its dumping fuel in all the time. to test, disconnect it and see if it starts better.

repeat the fuel injector test to make sure the new ones are working as they should, also make sure it only sprays fuel when the metering head flap is lifted! look at the metering head itself, make sure the flap lifts up and drops smoothly, and you can push it down thru the hole without it binding. make sure the metal disc is perfectly central in the metering head cone
