"One of the leading causes of a hard warm start is worn or damaged o-rings in the pressure regulator"
    quote from that link
if hes right that would be something to check before accumulator

Didn't notice any fuel coming out of the return outlet tbh, but then I loosened the return outlet after loosening the supply so I may have released the pressure already.

Thanks for the link, I did remove the system pressure valve but didn't notice the piston bit that can get stuck in there as in the thread you linked to. Only the screw part with the spring came out. I will take another look more thoroughly.

Just went out to the garage to take a look at the system pressure valve (I know its 11 O'Clock but need to get to the bottom of this as its driving me mad [:x], lol)

    Photos speak more than words:

Pressure Valve from original Metering Head (That once worked)
    SystemPressureValve-OriginalMH4.jpg

......Close up of valve from original Metering Head
    SystemPressureValve-OriginalMH3.jpg

Pressure Valve from old Metering Head (The one I found, not sure if this one works)
    SystemPressureValve-OldMH2.jpg

As you can see the o rings from the original metering head look in slightly better condition than the old one that I tried. I also started the fuel pump and tried loosening the return pipe as suggested but no fuel was released, but there was still pressure at the feed line.

Does this look like the system pressure valve may be at fault?

if the valve was at fault id expect too much fuel to be delivered via the injectors and 5th inj as there would be no pressure relief back to the tank as you would see the full pressure at the metering head capable from the pump!
So in this case I'd say your problem is more likely to be down to insufficient fuel delivery pressure/volume

    Its running!! [:D]

Took out the lift pump from the tank and the filter was pretty gunged up, a combination of this and the old fuel filter it had before I replaced it must have been enough to restrict flow to the injectors.

Gave the lift pump filter a good clean and with the new fuel filter it starts and runs, just need to get the CO set up as close to 2.0 percent as I can get it now following the FAQ as looking at the plugs its still running very rich.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions

thats not on either of the fuel input and output lines, thats the fuel pressure regulator which is on the front next to the input line

Yep, that's true. I took them out of a spare metering head yesterday, and the smallest o-ring is really pressed and destroyed...

I can't find it anywhere btw [:s] anyone selling them on the internet or something? Thanks!

this is "the box" that I saw on the 3 stores I asked, and none of them fitted ok :(

There was one oring which had an inner diameter of the appropieate width, and another that had the good out diameter :(
