hi all ive got a 16valver with 133k on it and wanted to know do these all have ticky sounds on idle etc, when its idleing i rev it to 2500rpm and sounds rather tappy only slightly though!also the same when i balance at 4000-5000rpm when driving takeing it easy not flooring it is this wear and tear or are they all like this Edited by: tuc16v
naaah mine sounds like a diesel on idle but dont worry about it. A vw engineer said to me that it sounded so loud because the teeth on the cambelt had a different profile or something and that it was once a vw recall that my car obviously never went in for
no especially, just when a mod sees it you wont have a sig any more! max size is 500x150 yours is 800x300! tim
Cam chainwheels The earlier 16v's had 'jagged' teeth on the chainwheels and were changed for gears with more rounded teeth in an attempt to quieten down the cam chain. Didn't realise there was a recall on it, just thought they phased them in during production. Edited by: GVK
Mine sound exactly the same as urs TUC16v. Its got 85K on it. Is there something we need to change or shall i not worry about it?
which year makes are considered as 'earlier'* can "old type" chainwheels be easily replaced with newer type and are they much "silenced"? anyone got picture of sample teeth of both chainwheels (old and new ones)?
The newer ones have rounded teeth, the old ones have standard looking sharp teeth. I've run both in my valver, had the sharp ones with the twin exhaust cams, and to be honest, I didnt notice any difference...
i've got the old type chainwheel teeth and the top end is pretty much silent. but then i did refurb all my tappets. a change of oil (synta siler) and a new (vag) filter normally goes a long way towards getting them quiet.
