Not sure if i can post links from other forums, but i'll do it anyway, this ones worth a look.

Some guy was claiming his 2.0 8v, "with cam" just did "172bhp and 176ft-lb" on the rollers.. I personaly think it sounds like a bag of poo, so surely not?

    heres the link - http://www.vwgolfmk2.co.uk/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=19296

    Good Luck, Have Fun! [:D]

Seemed a normal 4th gear run to me...

A run of the mill 2L 8v on digifant will be anywhere from 135-150bhp dependant on the spec from experience. A magnex system is certainly not the way to strong power....also from experience!

Looks like the quote-me-happy rollers were being employed..

Not on that spec... not by a long way. He's probably got 130-135 bhp.

Were not the 86 VWMS 8v Rally cars rated at 170 bhp?

Yes, in that ballpark, but on high compression engines.

So what is the spec. of these cars Chris.
I have been trawling the internet for months now trying to find info. or detail photos.

I even bought a set of homologation sheets from Germany. They are going back, poor photo copies and page 24 is still missing.
I am trying to find a 'Katalog' of parts. No luck yet. Did they exist.

Best to look to the the Group A Mk1 Golf homologation papers on the VWM site (A-5096), since these were solid lifter heads also, same as the early EV-Mk2 8-valve engines which VW are bound to have reached for. Quoted at ~ 174bhp from recollection.

Also check the piston and cam specs listed in the Works parts manuals (aka 'Katalog') from 1996, 1997 & 1998, and the French manual (low down the page).

(I collected the 1996 'Katalog', in person, from Hannover!)

It's a jigsaw job, but something can be got from it.

Power-wise nothing stratospheric in my book. 160-170 was ballpark in the Slick 50 Golfs in the '90s. High compression, TSR Pack D head (valves: 40.5 inlet, 35 exhaust from the book), big cam etc.

Thanks Chris. I have all of those thanks to your previous information.
I was hoping to find an 8v specific 'Katalog'?

I am hoping to visit Wolfsberg in the summer. I have been communicating with Susanne Wiersch at the museum about looking in more detail at the Motorsport cars. I hope to persue this. Not done anything about Hannover yet. Are they helpful to ordinary punters?

I keep meaning to try to arrange a visit, though the general impression is Hannover aren't into the past.

I have just found another catalogue which I'd had a copy of for years, but finally got an original of last summer.

    More 1800 8v info.

    300, 308 or 316 degree cam, 81.5 bore.

    Mk1 or Mk2 Group A 1800 engines, same price: DM 12,935 (at 1986 prices).

I will scan it up for the website at some point.

    That sounds good Chris.
We'll be staying in Hannover, so I can knock on their door often and hope for the best!

There seem's to be a fair few mk2's with just a 2.0 claiming around 170hp?

I would call in advance - the large reception is all you're likely to see if you turn up on spec. I almost got a workshop tour, but there weren't enough people in that day.
