While driving my Mk5 - 1.9 TDI at a certain moment engine felt down on power so i lifted and pushed again the trottle, which gave resistance and engine cut out. Engine cranked over but does not start., Battery at 12.5 V. Think i saw some message about steering rack.on the display too. With vagcom i found this : 18104 Powertrain Data Bus , Implausible Message from Steering Column Controller / P1696 000 - - A search gave this : http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/18104/P1696/005782 Has someone dealt with this before ?
It turned out to be a seized turbo, so no air could move .... changed the turbo and now runs fine again
