195/50/15 R888s on an 8" rim?

Got a new set of wheels I'm fitting to the Mk2 measuring 8x15. I was going to fit new 205 or even 215 R888s, but that may have to wait as I don't have the luxury of splashing out 200 on another set of tyres.

My current wheels have 195 R888s fitted, still loads of tread left. Would these work okay on an 8" rim?

On the Toyo website I am sure it states what width wheel the tyre is suitable for. I checked before putting R888s on my 8x17" wheels.

    Thanks.

Just had a look on their site and they say 5.5" - 7" for the 195 tyre, but even the 215 they reckon only 7.5" is the widest rim to fit them on [:s]

They are on 6.5" rims at the moment and rim almost looks too narrow for the tyre. I might give it a go with one wheel and see how it turns out.

Remember the sidewalls won't stretch as normal road tyres will.

Yeah that's what I was worried about. I know the local tyre fitters pretty well so might still take one down, I'm sure if it isn't going to work they'll let me know.

If I do need a new set surely 215s will be wide enough for an 8" rim?

I wouldn`t put 195`s on an 8" rim. Too stretched, especially with 888`s.

Looks like I'll be needing new tyres then.

Just quickly checked prices, 215s are 20 more per tyre than 195s and 225s are 30 more per tyre. Might have to rethink the whole wheel situation.

stick with the toyo's on the 6.5" rim and put the eight inchers on the 'raddo? you can run 195 45 road tyres then, it'll look fat on the corrado

I was thinking that last night, might try the 8" Compos on the Corrado this weekend to see how they look. Then it'll give me an excuse to rebuild the split rims on it now.

I still want to widetrack it as well so might just look into doing this at some point, then I can get rid of the spacers and keep the 6.5" wheels.

That was another possible problem. The offset is et25 as well so with chunky 215 tyres the arches would definately need playing around with.

It might come to that in a couple of months time.
