Ok what on earth can you do to these to make the more secure without it showing (look of originality must be maintained) The reason I ask is I locked my key in my dad's and it didn't take long to get the door open without doing the poor girl any harm. Don't really wany my dad's car being that insecure considering we're very fond of it.

My brother had a Mini before the invention of alarms and he had a simple switch wired into the ignition hidden inside the gear lever gaiter.
Crook lock or a kill switch. Removing the dizzy rotor arm is a favourite if parked for an extended period of time. Unfortunately the quarterlights and doors are a weak point.
Yes, front quarterlights undoubtedly the weak point in terms of easy break-ins.. I seem to recall that some of the classic car specialists had security clips that you could fit to the quarter lights to make it much harder to lever them open... Although they'll never be very secure, cars from such a different age...
Just get him to park next to much nicer cars. Pretty easy if, like me, you just drive a bunch of ****ters.
I used a coat hanger and just popped the door pin up, changing the door pin for one you can't lift like that would be a plus. When I told my dad he asked why I didn't break in through the quarter light
thing is, if you make it too hard to break in they'll just smash a window, or punch a hole thru the door skin. let em get in, just dont let em drive it away!
pretty much impossible to stop anybody getting in, windows always give in eventually. wiring is so simple hotwiring is easy, so try a whacking great motorcycle locking chain wrapped around the steering wheel and the seat frame, visible and if anybody was to try and remove it would make noise. it would be possible to fit a cat2 if you can find a good fitter who is sympathetic it would be straight forward for a transponder type to be fitted and nothing showing
Fit a kill switch that earths the ignition so stops it sparking. I've heard of people using the rev counter feed on a 914 to do this, although I suspect a beetle might not have a rev counter.
It has a speedo. That's it. Well, it tells you how much petrol it has too. I think I'll bung in a kill switch soon just to secure it a bit. I think the only thing you noticed when you saw it was "they don't make vinyl like that anymore"
