2.0 16v Cam Combo Conundrum

    Did a search but still no wiser.

    I need a little help choosing the right duration(s) of cams for my 16v. The car will be running DTH tb's, KR flowed head, 4 branch manifold & 2.25" exhuast
    I'm hoping to acheive 200bhp but trying to keep it drivable around town if possible (lol)

    Will be dealing with Newmann cams so can pretty much choose what I like.

    Lol - this could have been me posting yesterday. I have the same spec and have just ordered my Newmans via Philip Walker on this forum (top bloke very good price).

    Driveability wasn't a concern for me tho ;)

    I've also got a similar spec but a 1.8 with high compression pistons and some more bottom end work. I was looking at newman cams for that. I want a nice spread of torque from 3k with max power arround 7k and hold power till 7500. Hoping to break the 200bhp barrier with the 1.8 but only time will tell.

    If others are interested mabe we could get a group buy together?

    Well my car is knocking on 200BHP with Schrick 268/276 cams...totally road friendly too!

    I have been told that building the engine for higher than standard compression would have yielded more power...& is the way forward with cars on ITBs/aftermarket management! ;)

    From what Ive read elsewhere, a split duration seems to be a popular choice Is their a particular reason for this?

    A bottom end rebuild will be on the cards in 07 (providing the existing one lasts until then :lol: )

    Don't know about your flowed head, but in a standard head the exhaust doesn't flow aswell as the intake so the bigger duration on the exhaust cam help get the gasses out of the combustion camber. but contributes to lack of low down torque.

    The Cat Cams range is very broad, interestingly they offer a fruiter inlet cam with their split duration kits.

    2 litre is it?
    I'd suggest a 2.5" exhaust.

    cat cams and as fruity as you can afford to go.... if you can get some decent hike in compression it will yield benefits.
