Gonna renew the plugs on my digi 2.0 8v (2e) and can't remember whether i'm supposed to use the recommended plugs for a PB or 2e. I'm using the 2e dizzy, Pb head.

Any preferences in terms of brand, etc? NGK over Bosch? Single, double, triple or Quadruple electrode? I usually just use single electrode, but tbh have never experimented with plugs.

Copper, platinum or iridium, does it make a difference? Whats with this 'smaller electrode resulting in a bigger spark' nonsense from iridium plugs? I thought Iridium plugs were usually for Jap cars running mega bhp and twin turbos. Any benefit for the common GTi 8v?

Something like an NGK BP7ES would do the job, simple and effective. I think you summed up many of the other fancy stuff... "nonsense".

is that for a 2e engine or Pb?

Looked through my old threads and I used NGK BP6ET's last time, which I gather are for the standard pb engine. They seemed ok, but as I said I've never experimented with plugs so I don't know- maybe I should be running 2e plugs.

not sure, on AVS they list a different plug for the 2e so id assume not. All i know is my 2e+ pb head/managment ran just dandy on the Z12s :)

I have a mk2 with pb head and AGG bottom end running with a 2e dizzy. Im curious are you matching the plugs to the bottom end or the dizzy? Im using standard pb plugs, what should I be using?

I matched them to the engine mangment rather than head or bottom end. Though AVS recommend something else for the PB, single probe plug of some kind. had problems withthem being knocked outa spec so i used k-jet gti ones! like i say it ran just fine :)

Thats what I'm trying to figure out. My car ran well on the PB ones, but I am running 2E dizzy, and obviously rotor arm, cap etc.

Thats what I use, no problems at all. Intresting as mentioned above etka lists different plugs for 2e and pb, may have to order some in to compare.

The plugs are responsible for initiating the flame propagation and in this case should be matched to the combustion chamber. A 2E/PB combination is essentially an enlarged PB engine. Use digifant plugs. In my 3A engine with 2E inlet I can use Audi 80 or MK3 2E plugs as the head is the same between the two engines.

    right ive had a look,
the 2e bottom ended digi has Bosch wr78 super 4 plugs in, they are 4 electrode! and work well i would say, been in for couple of thousands miles.

the racecar has Bosch super plugs WR7DC, triple electrode, these work fine.
NGK BP6ET Multi electrode, triple electrode plugs are the same as these.

Bosch super plus is a single electrode one which works WR7DC+
    hope that helps

Just had another look on etka, theres an NGK plug listed for the PB. Part number is 101 000 027aa, this is replaced by part number 101 000 036aa, which is also listed for 2E. So either will do!
