Has anyone dropped a Quarto lump into a Rallye? Was thinking about the different engine options for my Rallye i.e. 16VG60, 20VT, S3 and then the 2.2 quatro thought and i woundered if it had been done.

    Any ideas/info

Not that easy to come across a good 10v UR Quattro engine, expensive to find a good 20v engine, tuning costs a fortune. Why not choose something different, STD power plant with loads of power, like a big modern Audi engine. They are reliable, not well sought after for conversions. Quite a few engines giving 300+bhp in STD form. Ive got an engine code book that gives codes, BHP and tells you from what year and model the engines come from. Tell me what sort of STD power you want and what sort of engine and Ill tell you what to look for.

I`m really pleased with my 16vG60 conversion, but if you`re after big power I suppose turbo`s the way to go..

There is a mk2 4x4 being done with a very very big spec rs2 engine at the moment, it is possible but its no easy swap as theres loads that needs to be done inc, spacer platesand custom shafts because the transfer box will need to be moved back over to the center of the cardue to the extra cylinder.

He was building a big power 4 cylinder 20vt but figured that he might aswell go 5 cylinder as the engine would be less stressed, would be better for spinning up a bigger turbo and it would also be different. [:D]

How about an S4 2.7 biturbo engine [:D]

Throw a couple of grand at the engine and you have 400+ bhp :p

the space to fit big turbo's in the S4 is the limiting factor.
In a rallye it will be more difficult.

    Unless you spaceframe of course!

    Huge potential though

    vw vortex (search under quattro)
guy in the US has done some serious fabrication to get quattro 20v and running gear into a Mk2.
There was a 20v turbo Mk1 in PVW a few months back in their 4wd shoot out.

Been done, probably not as straight forward as a more modern 4wd conversion and engine transplant.
One of the biggets problems the chap in the US faced was getting that extremely long engine to fit between the grill and the bulkhead.
    they are long!

I have a Rallye 20vT. usin an audi TT 225 engine. I'm runnin 272bhp at the fly.

I have only one problem that I can see with this conversion. Thats the gearbox, I would love an audi 6speed and all runnin gear from a TT 225.

But apparently It's a very difficult conversion.

The G60 gearbox it's longenough throu the gears with the 20vT.

I am forever changin gear too fast cos I'm almost on the limiter

But on the bright side. the car is a fun 4wd powerful turbo. always makes me smile.

the five cyl 20v from an s2 (ABY) is easy to tune, altho expensive [:x] at times and can produce good figures, the one we have was supposedly running near the 370bhp mark :) before altho its not been proved. RS2 turbo and such, only real problem is it weighs about the same as a small rhino!!!!! might spoil the handling [8(]

I think the chassis has been extended too & there was a huge chunk cut out of the bulkhead as you can imagine.......i haven't heard much about it since i took the pics.
