i have to say the standard mk3 brakes are toss can the 280mm be upgraded to vr spec 288 with no dramas? what are the best pads and discs to use. been used to driving new cars and the initial bite of these old brakes leaves a lot to be desired. thinking bout pagid or custom engraved tarox any views???

I run Tarox G88 with Pagid FRs in 280 size - works for me.

    I got 280's on my MK3!

    Used to have 239's

My thoughts now after running them for a week (standard g60 raddo 280's)

wants to pull up much quicker
    less effort to brake
no brake fade ... well, has been cold and wet..
    ermm, definetly MUCH BETTER!
Was worth the hassle, look better too!

Get goodridge hoses on there tooo!!

they made one hell of a difference!!

getting some Tarox x-drilled discs soon, so we'll see how they are when these are on!

I use pagid fast roads on 288 setup, very good! The 288 has a lot more braking surface (not just the 8mm at the top). Unfortunitely I can`t find anywhere to make a 4 stud 288 pattern disk yet so it`s just like having 280`s on at the moment which are fine for a mk2..

why dont you try a new 280mm disc and FR pagid pads, I got Brembo Max discs and Pagid FR on the front, and Brembo solid discs with pagid FR on the back on my mk3 gti. They havent faded/overheated yet, and the brake pedal has more of a solid feel to it (not that spongey anymore). Get them from GSF, think the front discs were only 70, with pads about 40.
    Bargain if u ask me!

    I think he means "momentum"

Heavier car = more momentum at the same speed as a lighter car = more brake power needed to stop it.

    As you all know.
