would you say thats rather steep?

that includes fitting of central locking, and alarm system on my driveway,

its the toad Ai606.....a Thatcham Category One (ie insurance approved) alarm with 2 circuit passive immobilisation, battery-backup siren, led, hazard flash, ultrasonic movement detection, bonnet/tailgate/door pin switch monitoring, anti-hijack system which locks the doors when you turn the ignition on (de-selectable), two 4-button remote controls, 3 programmable outputs to operate accessories from the remote control, input for optional single or dual zone shock/microwave/and tilt sensors, ouputs for extra siren and/or radio pager,

what do you think to the price? worth it or not?

It depends how good the fitter is really. The best alarm can be rendered useless by an incompetent fitter. Talk to other people in your area and find a good installer. The Ai606 is pretty good as I recall, so 430 doesn't sound horrendous.

Dunno if that's steep or not.

Sounds like the dogs for what you get with your alarm tho. It doesn't
really matter too much if you pay over the odds (for an alarm at at
least) its gotta be worth it for the piece of mind.

I paid about 300 IIRC for mine - Thatcham Cat 1 Alarm and Immobiliser.
The guys that fitted it (local auto-electrical company) promised me one
thing... "you won't be able to tell he's been in and fitted it." Which
was true... with the exception of sensors and keypad.

So I'd take Mr Bens advice and try and find a reputable fitter.

TBH. Getting an good alarm/immobilser fitted, at whatever cost, gives
the chance of finding your car where ever you leave it. Something I'd
gladly pay for. It also has some benefits with some insurance companies
    too. ;)

I fitted central locking myself on my car for the grand total of 20 quid, and got my toad ai606 fitted for 300, have had no problems with it since.

I bought my c/l kit for 40 and fitted it myself.
Fiddly job, had to grind a bit off the inside of my doors to fit the pumps, and was a b&stard getting the wire into the doors(cuz of the cavity between the footwell and door)
But it's good when you have people standing waiting to get into the passenger side cuz they don't expect you to have central locking.

With my c/l kit it has the wires coming out of the control box to allow you to fit an alarm to it, so it would be just a case of connecting the wire to the alarm.

Sounds like a good spec of alarm, but a little on the high side. It's important to get someone who works on your model a lot to get the best possible job.

I got a Cat 1 Scorpion on my Porker for 300 quid...not such a high spec as yours (no central locking on an old 911 for a start) , but was a good job, done by a guy who knows his way round the cars.

Ring round the specialists to see if they recommend anyone.

When I was fitting a good cat 1 , was about 320 but the parts were silly money then!!

I have found couple jobs I went to had alarms fitted sub-standard!! which were not easy to by-pass [:s]

when I done the Mk1 it was while the in bits, & it took all day ;)
