    Hey all,

Thinking about dropping a nice motor in the front of a MK1 after the cars been on it's side and had a rear diff etc grafted on... possibly thinking R32, or maybe RS4...

Anyone got any pro's or con's to using either engine!??!?! And using 4WD for that matter!

    Cheers!!

i was looking at the rs4 engine, it will only just fit in and be to far forward imo to handle all that well but it would be bloody quick tho.

getting 4wd in the mk1 aint easy but can be done, as i am partway through this myself[8D] , it will take alot of time and patience to measure stuff up correctly and make sure the car can actually handle what you want to put through it.

either way good luck with the project:thumbup:

Hmmmm... cheers mate! Have heard a couple of things about the RS4 engines being a pain in the ar$e, I'll add that to the list, haha!

Might just end up stuffing a turbo VR6 in it then

How long's the 4WD conversion taken you so far, and what car is the 4WD from?!

hmm interesting stuff....i'd love to do something similar myself...was thinking about Ben Leaches mk1 with the syncro running gear...not sure how it stood up to the extra power...that car was quick enough!

    eeeeeeeerrrrrr!

    You've got me going now....full R32 kit in a mk1.....

If you don't mind sacraficing a mk1....I really can't see it would be that difficult....propshaft would need to be made shorter wouldn't it I suppose.

    Dribble....

Another wiring nightmare too I expect.

the car has stop started and never really spent a long time on it but i will be soon
but once i actually start it wont take to long as i have planned it;) and the 4 wd is from a quattro tt with the o2m 6speed gearbox[:D]

you have to consider which hubs to use on the back due to spline issues and if the hubs will be strong enough.

each application of 4wd is different tbh and i think you will find the best route by actually doing it and trying different bits

i'd say dont do it!!! the whole appeal of the mk1s (the reason why they were know as the benchmark hot hatch) is their unrefined lightness and chuckability qualities. i aint saying they shouldn't be modded, just recks that when they're modded, these qualities should still be present - only more so. just my opinion thou!!!

That is scary how normal that looks from the outside. Loving the air intake in the scuttle tray idea aswell. Any pics of the nutter 4x4 creation?

Can't find any pics of nutter's motor, but it uses the mk2 subframe and haldex rear

His mk2 had 2 gt30s on it IIRC....
