I am going to do a 6a conversion this weekend into my mk2 valver.

the only thing I think I may get stuck on is removing the flywheel from the KR to put it on the 6a to use the kr clutch and 'box.

What does one need to remove a flywheel? any special tools?

The engine is pre '94, so i should be able to use the KR oil filter bracket right?

Just swap oil pickup, sump, cams, inlet + exhaust man. Anything else to know?

    Cheers,
    Oli.

A windy gun is handy, but not essential - I think there's an FAQ on the swap in the FAQ section.....

nope. use the braket from the 6a.

the flywheel is pretty easy to remove, but the clutch itself can be more of a bugger. you need to come up with a way of stopping the cxrank turning when your undoing the bolts. there are various options.

i used a block of wood, a 'Dad' (you can get these at most supermarkets ;)) and an extra bolt wound into any spare hole you can find on the clutch. work that out for yourself!!

    Cheers Paul,

Thanks for the FAQ by the way, it was really helpful.

I think I'll use a Dad, I'm sure he won't mind helping for a day... he knows he won't get his car back until mine's fixed :)

Was yours an earlier engine? i think the earlier engines you can rotate the oil cooler, and the later ones with the valve in the cooler you can't. Anyone know if this is true?

When removing the flywheel, is it literally just a case of undoing the end bolts and sliding it off?

It is just a copy of the VW special tool VW558, which holds the flywheel still (no real need for it, at 15 ft-lbs, the 9mm bolts are easy enough to remove), and it also holds the pressure plate, which is quite needed :)

The VW tool uses a 19mm hole and a flywheel bolt hole, and the PP turns into the tool, like shown above. It is probably a good idea to use an old flywheel bolt though.
