I have tried the easy route back into a Mk 2 16v , but no joy. Money made no difference So I am looking for a good quality standard OAK GREEN 3 DOOR Mk2 16v to restore But where do I find a company that will restore a Mk2 Golf ? Have tried the internet but no joy Any suggestions
Nu look motor bodies of Rochdale will do it. The guy there has a nice oak green VR6 and a black 16v. Quality is second to non.
16v Great - thats a start , but I live in London , so any other suggestions nearer home would be good But if your Rochdale guys are good then thats ideal . Can they carry out the complete job - respray , retrim, engine rebuild etc etc Thanks again. I will give them a call
Does it have to be an Oak Green car? Take a look at this http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C122005/ These guys have some real nice cars, some of the 8v cars he has are fab. http://www.volkscars.com/home/index.php?option=com_autos&func=maxview&cid=7&Itemid=49 They have this Oak Green valver. Typo on the price me thinks. http://www.volkscars.com/home/index.php?option=com_autos&func=detail&id=121
8 grand is a mad amount of money to spend on a stock golf - the only way you could justify it is to buy the sort of car that comes up once in a blue moon - under 50k miles, one owner, always garaged. You'd need to be very patient. What do you want to do with the car you buy (or have built) once it's done? It's very easy to burn up 8k in a rebuild, and it doesn't guarantee you'll end up with a great car. Something that's been pulled apart and put back together depends a lot on the person that built it, and how good they are. You could end up with something that has a lovely paint job, but rattles, leaks and breaks down.
For 8k you could get a full restore with a pretty young ABF engine. That's the way I'd go to be honest if I was spending that kind of money. If you're spending all that at least upgrade to the best 16v engine.
Thats a mad amount of money for a 18yr old car that being the youngest one you find seems a waist to me seeing that you can pick up a nice solid one for 3-4K
Try tuningwerks on Brighton road Croydon the guy was fully rebuilding a mk1 when I used him last and is very knowledgable (also a dub fan which helps)
16v "under 50k miles, one owner, always garaged. You'd need to be very patient." Thats what I was hoping to flush out but no joy.... I sold my 16v about 4 years ago to a VW lover who now shows it and wins all prizes - J 41 CUL if you know the car . 3 door Oak Green but he has spent hours and hours on the car . I really regret selling it and am keen to find another one or make myself one I know the guy who travels the country looking for Volkscars but Will has not found anything worthy and he sees plenty The MK2 16v is one of the great cars and a good one will hold its money all day long Off my head perhaps but thats my choice !
16v Yes loads of cars , loads and loads . Diiferent , better , faster , bigger ......... But this would not be my daily car , something to wash and polish . I have had four Mk2 GTIs all Oak Green and I fancy another I have driven lots of cars and all great but the Mk2 has soul . Had the new Porsche 9974S as a loan car last week - 90,000 worth - beautiful , fast etc etc but it had no soul. I would prefer a mint Mk2 16V . How mad is that!!
8K is lot, but, i don't think your mad. The mark 2 golf ticks all the boxes for me. I say good on you. Get another 20 years out of one easy.
I agree - they're great cars, but I'd find it really hard to look at one and think it was 8k worth. I don't think you'd ever see that money back from it. If you want a minter though, you'd be better off starting with a good one and working round it yourself, paying people to do specialised stuff for you (like re-trimming, if you go down that road). At least that way you'll know when it's been done right.
