    Chris is correct!!!

Top nut doesn't fit my bilsteins [:^(] [:s]

need to measure the thread and think comp brake can sort me out.

Forgot price but they were alot less than demon tweeks has them for!

yep got them for my mk1 too, i got them from rally design about 50ea IIRC.

Anyway they fitted okay with my avos, though the bilsteins may have a different sized top nut/rod.

You will probably need to grind out the inside of the turret a little to allow them to sit flush as there was a little rivet in the way on mine. Then i drilled an extra hole or two in the turret to secure the top mounts from above with the supplied allen bolts. You do lose however about 25mm in travel as the topmount now sits lower than the standard one did, this can also affect clearance with the inside of the tyre as the bottom spring seat needs to sit lower, i use 7" rather than 9" front springs to help overcome this, have also used big spacers in the past. (See my other "mk1 suspension travel" thread for the top mount spacers i made up to experiment with)

Once fitted you can experiment with the postion of the top mounts to alter castor and camber, but bear in mind you will also be altering your scrub radius angle...

Sweet, guessed i'd have to grind down the side of the tunnel to make it level wanted to check first!

7 inch front springs it is then!

    Cheers buddy!

can someone explain the point of these. mk1,s already have camber adjustment ,ok they will give a bit more castor but if you then lose an inch of suspension travel is there really any benefit.

i got them primarily 'cos i kept knackering vag topmounts runnings stiff front springs, but as well as the castor, you can tune SRA and also get more than 2deg neg camber.

check your own set up before you wedge out for the 7" springs, your ET and tyres might be different than mine i run pretty big (wide and tall)slicks on track.

Where can I get the bolts from to secure these adjustable top mounts?Or has anyone got the diameter and pitch of the thread, they seem a bit similar (not sure on the size) to inlet manifold bolts on a 16v, probably not up to the stresses though?

I've ordered mine from CompBrake and it appears you dont get any with them, only a pair of top nuts and sleeves.

M8 capheads should do it ... be careful of the length if they are not fully threaded.

    good thread,

I'm thinking of getting some of these for a mk2, could any one tell me how much of a difference the extra castor made? it seems like mk2s have very little castor as std.

I've got 20mm spacers to increase the track, so this has prob reduced my scrub offset to virtuall nothing, steering is noticebly lighter + less feel. I'm hoping I can also use these to add some more KPI and get a little offset back.

also, I've got GAZ coilovers, I assume the strut diameter is ok for these mounts?

    cheers

Why would anyone bother ftting mounts like these?

The range of adjustment is so limited! You cannot adjust camber without adjusting castor, and for any given cambwer angle there are only two extremly different camber options - seems like a massive compromise given you could fit fully adjustable ones. . . .
