as title, I need to alter the caster on my mk 1 golf,
who uses what to sort there adjusments out? top mounts currrenly using bonrath items with the 10mm drop built in to it.

most of the stuff i've found have been in that states
ideally looking for something than doesn't need mods to body work to fit, and if it can help with camber even better

something like this ok, but would like more adjustment

Has to be Compbrake again for those Chris - that's where Demon Tweeks get them from.

Just check that they come with a sleeve for the damper rod - and the sleeve top nut, since sometimes the stems don't push through far enough on these.

Also steering effort will increase with the more castor added.

well it all adds up, the caster as you already know is close to 0' and the steering is so much lighter than thought with TDI lump in it!

are they happy to bolt on in the same 2 holes as std top mounts? not much of a bush absorb the knocks, best think about tipping my dentist more, I'll need him sweet in couple years!

    5` castor (1.5` camber / 0` toe) for hills / sprints.

    3 x HT caphead / nyloc fixing

Would your current dampers be the correct length for these ?

(Standard 1600 GTI steering / suspension layout with Leda coilovers & Eibach ARBs)

That could be down the the reduced caster you have. More caster = heavier steering.

I think they are as good as it gets in terms of adjustable top mounts... After the trials with the compbrake rose joints I would be a bit wary of anything else from them now...

Anyone with solid top mounts fitted comment on the ride? How much harsher / noisier are they?

It's mainly your spring rate that'll determine the ride.

The only other issue with top mounts is ensuring, for a car used on the road, B-roads etc, that the top mount hasn't compromised the suspension travel available. The Compbrake ones will lose a little bit, due to the thickness of the aluminium, compared to OEM.

You will struggled to put that down or sustain it. 2 bar is too much on the road IMO, even with 4WD.

    Try some winter tyres.

if it helps I had some issues under high torque, softer front suspenion helped
good front bushes & all the setting up front to be right
