    Car is a 2001 V5 170bhp
Recently noticed the 40amp strip fuse located on top of the battery. After replacing it, it blew again once the aircon was switched on.

Does anyone know if it's likely to be a faulty fan controller or is is the fan unit itself. Is Vagcom usedul for diagnosing this fault?

If it's the fan controller, will the resistor mod sort it out?

Any insight would be much appreciated.

if its climate then you can scan it with vag-com, otherwise not.

the fan controller is located quite low down so might have suffered from water damage, worth a look. iirc the fan resistors are prone to failure too so thats worth a look. if oyu unplug the fans, replace the 40a fuse dowes it blow again right aweay?

I only replaced it once and started the car with climate control turned off. Fuse only blew when I turned the climate on. I will check it on Vagcom. Bad timing as I'm looking to put it up for sale but can't until I rectify this

I have the similar car i.e.a Bora. The low speed fan that runs when the AC is on. After many hours of use, either burns the fuse out or burns out itself altogether, leaving only the high speed.
More prone on cars that always leave the climate control on.

The fan controller is unlikely to suffer 'water damage' as there are mounted in the chassis leg under the battery tray.

Send me a picture of said fuse strip.

Climate does stay on all the time and I did around 500 miles in it in 3 days before it blew. I'm guessing the fan shroud and 2 fans are all one part.

Would disconnecting the aircon fan still leave the main fan functional and preserve the 40amp fuse?

Never mind just realised the main fan has seized hence blowing the fuse

One of my favourite elec sayings is " fuses don't blow, they operate"
