Well my mate came over to test things. nothing would work so we stuck his spare alternator on my Jetta and it worked! Battery is charging and all is good. Meaning my alternators must be knackered! When he bought his car, it came with a normal looking alternator on, but there was a polished alernator with it to fit. the idea was he'd sell me the old one and put the polished one on his car... turns out the polished one is a totally different bracket to his original one, meaning it was useless to him! Gave him 40 quid for it, so I now have a nice shiney polished alternator!
Thanks James I had that thing removed to checked and there was tons of length left on the brushes.. So I've no idea why it wasn't working!
