Just fitted a CD/MP3 player well impressed with it apart from one thing.
If there is a disc in the player it pops out when i switch the ignition on [:x] is there a way around this so that the disc stays inside the player?

Does the head unit keep radio pre sets or time?? if not then the unit is resetting each time you switch on cos the ign live and perminant live are back to front.

As above, sounds like you have permanent and switched lives the wrong way - Swap the yellow and red wires.

dont know if it helps but on my Mk2 Mk3 and my old Mk1 Cab I had to have the yellow constant wire plumbed into the red power wire to get it to work and also to have the stereo on when the ignitions off.

I always take a fresh power feed from the battery ( fused ), run it through the bulkhead enginebay/interior hole to the stereo, then join both the yellow and red wires together to this..... then i can listen to the stereo all the time without having the ignition on ( washing the car etc ). It also means if there is ever a power fault with the stereo, you imediately know its nothing to do with the cars existing wiring harness as you are no longer using it ;) :)
