These petitions seem to get proposed on a regular basis, so it's easy to just shrug your shoulders and ignore them.

... but then again you never know, for the want of a few minutes adding your signature maybe someday it'll work!

Im afraid I don’t agree with that one. 20 years is not old enough.

I'd be more interested in road tax be added to fuel.

Why should I pay 30 quid a month to tax my MK2 which does 100 miles a year when someone in a zero tax a year rep mobile does 50k a year

This is so logical it hurts. I really don’t understand why it can’t be done. It works in so many ways. You only pay for what you use. The more fuel your car uses the more you pay. People will be more aware of what they use and how they use their car possibly reducing the number of miles travelled for the country as a whole. Win win win win…….

Agree on this point. 04 is a way off modern classic. There's a rotten 04 plate focus outside my work as I type which until recently was being driven without MOT. Should that guy get free tax (even though he's probably been getting free tax anyway as he hadn't bothered with MOT)

no way 20 years is enough.

also why is Road Tax now an environmental charge?

Agreed road tax should be on fuel but at what level for electric cars?
Used to pay £600+ for the Golf and the 08 Octy combined, yet a year younger Octy was £30! £30 doesn't seem enough. Having said that we have a Citigo which is £0 which definitely isn't enough.

Let's face it the current system isn't fair and the excuse is that it's an environment charge.

The income from road tax doesn't all get spent on roads either.

FYI. The mass road repair programme which saw the majority of roads re-surfaced in Sheffield will have to be repeated since it didn't adhere well and is breaking-up. The much needed foundation work wasn't done!

Good point on electric cars. In my view they should be taxed on weight. Maybe all cars should taxed by weight. Taxing by emissions is a nonsense especially when you consider the pre 2003 bandings etc.

Perhaps they might go halfway and do it for 30 years which would be very helpful.

Have to keep plugging away and constantly have it a live issue.

Even if this one's unlikely to be agreed to it may just help grind them down.
