[:^(] The beast is off the road! Cant believe it. Was on the way back from work today behind some old dear. There was a bin wagon on the side of the road, she went to overtake as the oncoming lane was clear, i followed her. She hesitated and decided to not overtake and do an emergency stop. I went for the brakes but with the roads being a bit ****ty i locked up, came off the brakes and tried again but it was no good, went sliding into the back of her! So much for ABS!
My beloved seems to be a bit worse off then the Honda Jazz i went into!

Pictures arent the best as they were taken with my mickey mouse phone. What do you guys think? Due to my insurance excess being rediculously high i dont want to put in a claim to get it repaired. Cant wait for my premium to sky rocket when she puts in her claim!

I am looking at the options.

Its gonna need a new bonnet, radiator, twin fans, front grill, front bumper, slam panel, power steering reservoir and conecting tube, front headlights, foglights, RH indicator, blanks and a few other bits and pieces. Not to mention the paint as its a rediculous colour that noones ever heard of! (twilight violet poly)

Dunno what to do, i could cry, im so gutted, dont think its properly hit me yet. I loved that car, it was the most reliable thing ive ever driven!

Might be worth a trip down to the local scrappy, it would be a good place to start. It sounds like there is a lot to collect, but if you put the legwork in yourself you might be able to keep the costs down. Maybe VW still stock rattle cans of paint in that colour? Just a thought, try and look at VW specialist dismantlers as well, probably cheaper than buying brand new parts.

Hope you get it sorted mate

Plenty of people breaking, you'll get the bits for a few hundred quid tops. If your able to fit yourself that will save a good chunk of cash, all you would really spend on then is the paint. As long as the chassis legs etc are all still straight it should be fine.

She's going to claim on your insurance.
I would get yours repaired or written/off by them too.
If its a write off then buy the car back plus get some money from them and repair it yourself.

Trouble is, my insurance excess is 725! my missus being on the policy and under 23 has bolted an extra 300 onto it. The cost of the repair wouldnt equate to that amount. I dont have to pay the excess when she makes her claim apparently, Im with tesco insurance.

I think its a case of sourcing an entire front end from a donor car and bolting it on, rather than finding all the individual parts.

I have stripped the entire front end down now. The chassis legs are untouched neither are the wings or anything else. So I should be able to just bolt on a new front end and bonnet and off i go, fingers crossed.

Its very tempting to swap the lump for a 1.8t now all the front is off, heh!

Excuse the poor quality of the picture, my phone isnt the best.

Looks like the old girl is going to be ressurected! Couldnt sleep last night knowing that i may never experience the ABF fury again.

So, got up at the crack of a sparrows fart and went hunting! Managed to find myself a bonnet in the same paint code and in surprisingly mint condition (better than my last one), not sure how good a match it will be till its on. Got a new twin fan slam panel, reinforcer bar, AC rad and normal rad, PAS reservoir and connecting tube. Got a front bumper, trouble is its in dragon green, but again in good condition, so will get the bodyshop to prep it and paint it aswell as the grill i picked up.

All im missing now is a set of headlights, two fogs, OSF indicator and two blanks. So if anyone has any of this going, or even a front bumper in a better match than dragon green give me a shout!

Very tempted to get out there now with my lead light and get stuck in, but this beer ive just cracked open is luring me towards the settee.

Toying with the idea of binning the air con alltogether, will be nice and easy now the fronts all off.

heh, oh well, these things happen. Just very unfortunate i guess.

Bit of an update on this. So far i have thrown 500 at this (i must be mad or stupid or something). Anyway, its had a brand new rad, second hand A/C rad, new fans, slam panel, PS reservoir and connecting tubes, new bonnet, new bumper, grill, headlights, fogs, indicators and blanks. The bumper and grill have been given a first class paint job buy a local bodyshop

However im a bit ****ed off, no matter how much tinkering and adjusting i dont think i can get the bumper to sit right. There seems to be a gap between the top of the front bumper and wing on either side. Is this normal? I cant for the life of me remember what it looked like before, Just doesnt seem to look right.

Any chance of maybe some pics of the front ends of your cars so i can get an idea of where i should be at?! Hope i can get this sorted, because with the new paint etc it will be looking better than ever.

If theres panel gap between the sides of the bumper and the wings then move the bumper slides up - slacken off at the rear, reposition and then tighten... jobs a goodun. They probably moved wehn you shunted the old dear.
