I only ask because the Beetle 2.0 crossflow block appears identical to the ubiquitous 1.8T block...apart from the fact that it has a couple hundred more ccs.:)

i thought the 20vt block was just updated version of the PB block, which was obviously a blueprint for the 2l block?

I'm sure I read somewhere that a 2l ABF block can be used.

i dont know this for a fact but surely[ ignoring the 6/9a blocks] all the 1800 cc engines wither 8v, 16v or 20v share the same bore/stroke and its only the pistons that are different. then same again with the 2 ltr. so i reckon there are no vw readily available pistons for a 2 ltr 20v although of course mods are possible.

Just a basic scan, some of the 1900 diesel engines have the same bore as the 1800s just with a longer stroke, surely it must be possible to create a 1900 20VT by using a diesel crank, or is the diesel crank not up to the stresses caused by the 20vt unit.

OK, so my point was that you can slap a 20vt head on a 2.0 beetle block. My beetle engine with 3k on it cost me 180. Is this not a cost effective 2.0 20vt - or will the beetle block disintegrate.

no but the pistons wont work. as far as i know there are no pistons to take 20 valve heads in the 2 ltr bore size.

any chance that a 20v head will go on an ABF?

i suspect that it will physically fit but the piston still wont have the cutout for the fifth valve.

Couldn't you get the pistons notched to accept the 20vt head?

yes but i still doubt they are really suitable for turbo charging especially if you start machining bits out of them.

je pistons and rods are cheapish they do 2.0l 20v ones

Yeah as far as i'm aware thats right, i'm currently building a 9a 20v and been looking into the possible combo's, i've looked at 2.0 fsi pistons and theyre a completely different shape on the crown although they are still 82.5mm bore same as 9a.

I think i'll end up using JE items on 144mm 9a rods & have them cut for the fifth valve, or another possibility would probably to use PG G60 rods 136mm? and use std 9a pistons with the little end rebushed, hopefully this would overcome the clearance issue of the fifth valve as well as lowering the compression, although i've not done any calcs on this yet

rubbish rod angle with a 9a crank and g60 rods tho 9a pistons with a little pocket for the 5th valve wouldn't be too much to do
