    Hi.

I need to settle a debate.

Me and a few friends own a mk2 golf track car, it currently has standard bbs rm split rims, so 6.5" wide all round.

My mates would to run wheels with a dish, for looks and they say better traction. The car only has 180 bhp so would we benefit from wider wheels for handling?

    Question.

Would the car handle better on thin wheels or wider ones.

Two/three issues are being muddled into one: that of grip (tyre width), possibly wheel offset and handling (suspension set up).

there is going to be a right combination, that will give you good handling.

Wider tyres = more surface area in contact with the road and hence more grip...

but too wide and the turn in would be shot and it would feel heavy and clumsy....and also a bit more edgy when the grip does finally give way....

I am wondering what the ideal wheel size/width is for my mk3 track day car too... have been debating it for ages
