Can these be modified for the MK2? the bracket looks like it can be removed, is this all the difference?

Nope, these are Armour Door Plates (ADPs), ADPs prevent someone jamming a screw driver under the handle gasket to trip the lock mech, whereas anti Slim jim plates prevent some one sliding a slim jim between the glass and the door to trip the lock mech.

I did a post showing how to fit anti slim jim plates.

I think on the mk1 the rear ones are deeper than the front ones, not sure about the mk2 but hope it sheads more light onto it.

The MK1 and MK2 ADP are a very different internal design, they won't fit (or be modified to fit) your MK2. Sorry.

Get a remote for your central locking, replace the front handles with back door items (no locks), Remove all the gubins that connect the lock barrel to the lock mechanism and also the door pins and there you go no need to have nasty looking plates round your door handles. If the battery ever goes flat just get in through the boot. If you want extra security just fit an anti slim jim plate. I made my own.
