I'm thinking of changing the "station car" & was thinking of going for an old Audi A3 1.8T but wondered if it's worth going for the Quattro one. It has 30 more Bhp but is the Quattro system going cause more trouble as the car will have 100k + miles?

You don't get much trouble with them other than the haldex
Look for some history of the haldex oil and filter being changed every 40 or 50k
The pump and haldex controller can go but are easy replaced the pump can get new brush's
This on the older mk4 age one newer ones don't have much problems
Other than not being serviced right
As it is not obvious what is the drain for the haldex and people drain the diff by mistake and over fill the haldex and the diff then only lasts a few days
Other than that it is a strong unit

Diffs are easy to get for both not much demand for them
I took two and a half years to sell the mk5 one I had and I know a few people that have and can't get shot of them

Could be worth taking vag com with you and scanning for faults
I would do that with any car
Do it after the test drive giving it more time for a faults to come back in case they have cleared them
