This is a must read for anyone who's VAG has a 6-speed box. https://blog.fcpeuro.com/definitive...ansmissions-mq350-02m-02q-0fb#common-problems The change on Elaine's 25J can be very 'baulky' when it gets hot. It reminds me of the problems with MK1 4-speed boxes on my daughter's DRIVER. The solution then was changing to multi-grade oil. The original oil is single-grade 75W. From the information on this site the 6-speed box will also benefit from multi-grade oil. NOTE: Check out what it says about using GL-4 and not GL-5! I am a big fan of FUCHS oils and the oil below appears to be the one, but they appear to have stopped making it! The high performance oils that they list now state: GL-4/GL-5 So I don't know if they are suitable!? I shall have to get in touch with them.
Normally I would just use OE gear oil from VW. but just checked the price, G052527A2 @ £37+VAT per litre Not a lot cheaper from ebay/google for genuine, though did find what looks to be the same fuchs oil you mention here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/184778160515
Yes, I saw that Opie still had some John. Trouble is they are in the UK and the idiots who caused Brexit dictate that I would have to pay duty as well as carriage. G052527A2 is €47.60 + VAT here and it's single-grade so won't help with the poor change when hot. I have only found SYN 5, not SYNCRO, in Eire. SYN 5 is the GL-5 version.
David, try Daltons.ie in Laois. Vw / German car specialists and enthusiasts, they'll deliver. I often got oil or additives from them. They're good to source stuff too, even if not in stock.
My old tdi was snatchy second to third ended up getting the oil charged quite early in it's life to synthetic gear oil that made it a little better eventually it loosened up must be quite common
A week ago I contacted both Fuchs, in Germany, and Derrnan Oil Products, the Fuchs distributor in Eire, by e-mail. Germany replied asking where I live but I have heard nothing since.
I run Penrite Pro Gear 70W-75 Synthetic in the 02M in my R32 powered Touran. I'm in the north of NZ, so it's generally warmish. I had put in a 75W-90 initially, which brand I can't recall. It was a little stiff when cold, but worse, it would occasionally grind if you went from 3rd or 4th straight to 6th at speed. The Penrite 70W-75 feels nice hot and cold and I have no issues with the synchros keeping up with any changes. I do a bit of towing too, which doesn't appear to have caused any issues so far, either.
Well folks after spending a lot of time trying to find a supplier in Ireland, with no help from FUCHS or their agent, I decided to bite the bullet and order from OPIE! Using Ebay the total cost was £79. On OPIE's website, without logging in to my account, the price was similar. When I logged in to my account the total cost reduced by around 40%!? So it is ordered.
Wow. The Penrite (which is Australian) retails here in NZ for about = 43 UKP for a 2.5L bottle. I often buy a spare, when it's on sale which can be anything from 25 to 40% off. https://www.supercheapauto.co.nz/p/penrite-penrite-pro-gear-oil---70w-75-2.5-litre/396351.html
Well, the oil finally arrived. I had to replace a front bulb so while I had the front end off (what a ridiculous amount of work to change a bulb!?) I performed a full service and changed the gear oil. I levelled the car. The Bentley manual indicates a 17 mm hex key for the drain filling plugs! Turns out I needed a XZN 16 tamper proof key. I had to drill a hole in a standard XZN 16. The oil that came out was nasty looking. There was only about 1.8 litres! That's 500 ml less than there should have been. I filtered the oil and there was only little evidence of brass and steel particles. I put the first 2 litres in using an oil transfer pump. The final 300 ml went in carefully using a funnel. Yesterday I drove 400 km to Dublin Airport, and back, to collect Elaine and Ruth returning from a couple of weeks in Italy. The gear change was much better with no sign of baulking at all. 'JOB DONE'
