my friend is having a issue with his 20vt. its the aum engine and the car idles fine but there is no response from the accelerator pedal at all. a new pedal was fitted to no avail. i tried search and cant seem to find anything has anyone come across this before? i took the throttle body off gave it a good clean
I don't have vagcom car is stuck where it is. In Manchester. Is therea way to test the throttle body?
you may need to do the basic settings if you have cleaned throttle body or changed any parts Would be good if you can get someone off hear to plug it in and see what's wrong
Always amazes me that people try DIY diagnostics on modern stuff (well mk3 on really..) and don't have vag-com/VCDS..
I never understand the logic in it either, try and save a few quid instead of paying a garage and then just play dartboard diagnostics and throw parts at it which then ends up costing more in the long run
Obviously reading fault codes isn't the be and end all of it, but it's always a start! So much info available on-line to help with it all too.
well i didnt expect that response.......... not used to this modern electronics what happened to the good old cable
dont worry about it i'v been there got stung for a few quid to get my tdi it scanned it was when i got the 4motion i got my first vag com lead paid for it self ten fold and made a few beers out of it as well
i was the same till 4 years ago how things change you best bet would to get someone to scan it for you see what comes up and go from there cost less in the long run or have a punt on ebay for a cheap lead nice mk2 by the way ps as i said above i'd do the basic settings on throttle body in vag com after i'd read the fault codes first
thanks mushy its off the road at the min in winter mode, plus i have some bodywork to do and replacing the bottom end. will tell him to get it scanned and post the results here will it be codes that show up or will it say e.g. sensor failed?
it will be codes but it may tell you what it is and what part it is if not or if your not sure you can look hear http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page sure GVK will chip in if you post the codes up as sometimes a fault can be two or three things and he dose this day in day out has more clue than me
Must admit, my post may have been a bit harsh, I apologise for that! But so often, people are posting asking for help with modern stuff, and code reading etc, is always the first stage of diagnosing them.
Like I said it isn't my car and I'm stubborn and like my older mechanics. I look at it as fewer things to go wrong. Apology accepted.
I'm in Rochdale and have a USB lead but no VCDS (I couldn't load it to my laptop for some reason). Your welcome to borrow the lead and you could try the VCDS download. Drop me a PM if you want to try it
