they made me an exhaust up for my mk1 a long time ago as they're local to me, took it off a few years back and was still as good as when it was fitted

The Autocavan style linkage is very similar to that fitted as std fitment to the Citi Golfs made out in South Africa. I did look into getting one of these about 8 years ago after driving one while on a business trip over there and wondering why the brakes felt soooo much better but was told that the bulkhead had been changed and as car was in a zillion pieces at the time I never pursued the idea!

I am sure that that would be a cheaper and easier starting point than starting from scratch as they undoubtedly must be on a SA version of ETKA with a VAG part number?

EDIT Just found this thread http://www.clubgti.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=112278&page=2 and these comments.....

Did anyone ever get a chance to take a look on ETKA for this and if so could they state from what year these were fitted and what part numbers would be required?

    Thanks,

    Tim

Now that really is weird as when I was over there in 2000 I had one as a hire car and was surprised by how good the brakes were so took a look under the bonnet and it was definately not the same....it was a torsion bar setup just like the Autocavan part!

I have a contact over in SA, I will see if he can try and find out if there was a switch over year maybe ?

I`ve not driven a Mk1 with the Autocavan unit but do have extremely good brakes for less than that last one went for.

    1996 T reg
    the rod part number 17S 721 501

    same up to 2009

UK part number from 83 Golf

    172 721 723 476mm

so whilst the picture/linkage looks the same on ekta, the part numbers are different.

This thread on VW Vortex is by a chap in SA and he says the re designed brake cross linkages are from the 1998 onwards SA Citi Golfs. Anyone with a later version of ETKA to look up part numbers?

That one looks exactly as per Autocavan to me - and I have one!

I really could do with an SA tour to look at a Citigolfs for several reasons!
