Am looking for some axle stands that go higher than 600mm. Seen some 615mm in Clarks but ideally I want to go higher. Any ideas?

The higher you go, the less stable it's going to be, and the more difficult it will be to get the car up to the right height.. I've seen people use trestles for race cars, but they either use a 4-post ramp (EDIT: should have said 2-Post) or extended tail lift of a truck to get them high enough. I might be able to get you a couple of pics, if it's in his barn.

Also, they're for lightweight racing cars, to bring them up to working height, rather than to crawl around underneath them.

Having used an engine hoist recently, to get the Scirocco Mk1 shell onto the chassis roller, I found that pretty hairy, so lifting a full car would be hazardous unless you've got a proper car lift to do the job.

I have access to a pillar ramp however it wont start at the moment so I am unable to move it.
I plan on putting it on the stands whilst I carry out some work underneath. I guess 600mm is about the highest I should go safety wise.

I'd think that's higher than most trolley jacks will go for a start.

I assume the ramp isn't a quick fix?

I am changing the subframe and other bits and bobs. The usual really. I am a member of a club that has a pillar ramp but it is a few miles away. If it was running I would not be able to leave it on the ramp because I reckon on doing it slow time.
Currently it is in my garage so I figured on doing it in situ.

I wouldn't mind a set of those 1194mm ones. Very handy

How do you lift a car to 1194 safely though?

Yep, they are great and I was surprised how high they go

I could do with another one really. I'll definitely go and have a look at these axle stands tomorrow. My current Halfords ones have seen better days, and I lost a pin for one of them!
