The turrets look fine Bill, it will add a lot of strength to the inner wing but i thought you would have had a x in the roof and a x in the rear hoop but must be to do with this super six cage Chris mentioned. The welding does look top notch excellent job
They said verbally when I got the initial quote it would be boxed on the X crosses, but it has'nt been. New design cages also require gussets in the corners, which mine does'nt have. Makes you wonder how a type approved cage from x years ago, can be fitted to a new installation and not be built to the regs of today. Some homologation jiggery pokery I guess. Either way tho I feel much safer inside this one than the basic 6 point bolt in I had in originally, so its +ve progress.
Jesus that looks a good quality strong cage in there! Can't wait to see it on the rollers again. bring several really fat people with you next time
yea.. myself included, but I would have to hire a driver as I wont fit in if I dont loose some weight. going to be very scarey when built and mapped in again.
looking awesome bill. do you think the cage will have an effect on handling aswell as the safety?? what's the spec of the engine for this season??
people tell me it will be better handling. will have to see. i am expecting some difference to effective spring rates, but until its built and tested... I dont know. engine is same as been used since oct2005. no internal changes. ecu is now dta s60 dbw prototype so will have to see how that pans out. DTA X-Dash also going in there. new turbo, tubular mani, externally TIAL gated, possibly 8 injectors if I need more fueling (which I think I will with this new turbo). more revs planned to use the bigger tubby.. will see how far it will go. new g'box in there after last race last season so thats all good. new plated diff, dog box is sweet as s nut. time in this alone from speed ot gear change compared to my stock 02J box last year.
well mines an ibiza_banana after all. hammerite smoothrite is a good colour match. Colour chosen tonight with an ickle spray can. its too cold to spray and I cant afford the spray cans... will get some 2ltr tin of they do it, some thinners and spray it on with me airguns.
been painting the cage these last few days.. got some issues.. Used Hammerite smoothrite, bright yellow, very close to ccars original (non faded) yellow. bought in aerosol tins. Want to spray the inside with my proper spray gun tho to get better and faster coverage in the awkward to get at bits, but the tins of yellow smoothrite are mustard colour, not bright yellow.. I have tried 3 different tins from 2 different suppliers and they're all (slightly varying) shades of mustard yellow. An old 250ml tin we found was bright yellow, same as the aerosols.. wtf is going on?? anyone got any suggestions? Cage is 3/4 painted in smoothrite aerosol bright yellow currently.. floor pan and rest of interior to do but I cant do it with aerosol tins...
Related suggestion is to go for a satin finish - less difficult to achieve a good finish than gloss I found.
Spray the rattle can in your mouth for five minutes then spit it all out through a straw into the car, job done I accept no responsibility or liability for any damage caused by or to anyone or anything from my `suggestion`. So don't call claims direct.
