I found the best prices for Supertech valves are the US at the mo. I've had a few sets from there and no-one in the UK can match the prices yet, even with the import tax and extra delivery duty.

I tend to use a Atorn straight body domed head D Cut burrs for nearly all my work, finished off with a flap/scotchbright wheel in one. Finish is great without being polished.

    milesmk2, pm coming your way.

building a 16V at the moment, but the mk1 tarmac car is back to 8V. got a few other interesting engines in the wings too.
Keep up the good work on this thread. This site is by far and away the most technically interesting/stimulating out there,
    cheers,
    Jon

Well i had a phone call back from the company i took my head too to have the 3 angle seats cut.

Lets just say the amount they want for doing it plus replacing all the guides is a rediculous amount and its way over my budget.

Maybe. Got some other tricks I might employ at the same time. [:D]

But at the mo, just got to sort out some cosmetics to keep the shell tidy.

You did the right thing. I took the 16V head to get new guides in and couldnt pin the guy down on any sort of price. Eventually, after he added this and that to the workscope, the bill was eye watering. Needless to say he has lost a customer. Live and learn

I'll give credit where its due, the firm i went too was very good with comunication. Just a shame that the price would be well over what i can afford [:^(]

In all honesty, just re-conning a 16v head is'nt cheap. Over 350 worth of machining goes into my 16v heads... skimming, supply & fit guides, bullit nose/taper guides before fitting, 3-angle seat cutting x 16, back cutting valves... it all adds up. That's why when you see cheap head's something is missing.

Great thread, i need to learn how to do all this work, all the machines at my reach and no knowledge of engine machining.

A bridgeport, Alpha, coulchester, parkson, and tig welding!

    And a great dia grinder.

Someone want to teach me lol.

    Any pics yet too?
