I need to replace the power steering V belt on my dads 97 8v (AGG Code) Mk3 Gti (no aircon)
Can someone tell me the length of the belt I require please as Ill need to pop to the motor factors on Monday & it would be good to know the exact size (rather than depend on their catalogue sizes which Ive had trouble with beiong wrong in the past)

While Im under the car I may as well replace the Alternator ribbed belt too - again the size required please

Ill have to get ETKA back on my pc:)

non a/c there are 3 sizes depending on the age:
    2.0 8v 2E,ADY,AGG,AKR - 6PK0894
    2.0 8v ADY (120A Alternator) - 6PK0976
    2.0 8v AGG,AKR (120A Alternator) - 6PK1038

    v-belt
    1.8-2.0 (-Aircon) - 11.0685

might be written on the old belt ;)

    great thanks.
Fitted the Power steering belt today & it was 685mm as you say

The ribbed alternator belt, which I havent replaced yet, seems to be 975mm long when I wrap a length of string around the pulleys/old belt. Cars a 97 AGG with a 70A alternator so from the above it should be 894mm??

I had ths trouble with my 2E too cos on the VW spares site
    http://www.vwspares.co.uk/pa3a_belts.php
again stated for a 2e with 70amp alt it should be 894mm but my string test showed it to be 975mm??

Both cars are on the original alternators & pulleys too I think so there must have been some discrepancies with age/spec etc
Couldnt see any sizes on the old belts when they're in place
    Cheers!

yeah the 2 longer belts above are valid for abf too, but instead the difference is by year rather than if they had 120a alt or not.

the 8v had 2 different alternator tensioning setups depending on the age, the earlier one had a big spring under the alt to tension and later one had a seperate tensioner wheel. the shortest belt is for the spring loaded alternator. the tensioner wheel system was always used for a/c equipped cars though
