what would be the perfect size ,width ,offset wheels for a mk3 vr6 track car
. running the standard wheels for now but noticed a few guys on here running 17"s i thought that would have been a bit to big ?

    i was thinking 16 x8 et 35 ?

I've always believed that the biggest size of OEM (ie16's) are normally a good choice

I have zero experince with mk3's on track, but the side wall of the tyre also acts as part of the suspension (which you will be stiffening!)

it depends on what tyres you shall use and of course the brake size but 15inch with a semi slick is in my opinion the best solution and lower the back of the car more than the front so the front will drag the rear through the corners

I do about 2 uk track days a year and the n'rng twice a year in my daily mk3 16V and found 16" worked well from my oe 15"s(195/50/15 tyre), better steering feed back, which I guess is to do with a less side wall flex(195/45/16), brakes also seem abit cooler as my 16" are of a more open design.
If your mk3 is a full on track car ie race tyres then 16" rims are not well sorted for tyre sizes. 195/50/16 being the smallest, toyo R888 coming in at 598mm which is the same size as 205/40/17 at 598mm but more grip as they are 205's.
