What are the major things to look for and where? I'm after a Mk2 8v (to keep the insurance reasonable) perferably 5dr and as standard as possible. Any thoughts/ideas etc.
Not prepared to pay extra for a green car! Looking to spend approx 1500 but may go higher for right car. Have to sell wife's Fiesta Ghia X to finance it so dependent on what I get for that. Still don't know how I persuaded her to agree. Will be letting my wife use my Mondeo while I use the Golf.

I reckon you shouldn't have a problem getting a mint mk2 5 door for around 1500. The 5 doors are generally less desirable so command slightly lower prices.
Going to see one on sat 1992 8v 5dr in tornado red, full dealer history, owned by present owner for 10 years. He's selling because he's just bought a MKIV GTi. He's owned a MKI and his wife has a MKIII Gti. It's done 133K but looks in really good nick. He wants 1600 ono. I will obvoiusly try to knock him down but looks ok. I will keep you informed.
