Yep, got an 02j shifter tower for the box and complete R32 lever assembly and cables.:)

Sadly install is not as bling as I'd hoped, but it'll do.

I was just about to ask how this was coming along. I have been trying to get a few ideas in my head and on paper about how to raise up the std G60 canble change set up so its closer to the steering wheel and further back.

I was planning on inch box section frame size (eaaier to weld etc) to raise and move the shifter backyards.

How much better is the mk4 shifting compare to the G60 cable shifter. I found on track that sometimes it slips into 4th instead of second when coming to the odd slower corner, which is fecking annoying (blame the driver for beind lazy  )

How much was the mk4 shifter and cables then matey?

Time to start searching nes par!

Gary with the vertical handbrake idea couldn't you use longer cables & set the lever vertical & just use a closed wheel/pulley system to get the cables to go from horizontal on the floor to the vertical position behind the now vertical handbrake (if that makes sense?)

It's out of a newer car, so less worn, got to be better

I got the bits from a mate for 30-40 IIRC:)

Threading the lever for the Quaife knob was a 'mare tho.. the levers are crimped at the top and the standard knob has a 'o' clip that is crimped to secure the knob.

Didn't know demon tweeks did cables - Cheap too at around 38!

As for ball joint ends, I just got some from this place:
    http://www.autosport-bearings.co.uk/

Go into Web Shop, Click on "Rod end, female, metric", then select "Plastic, Springfix". Only 2.27 plus the dreaded...

Got them this morining (After a phone call yesterday!) and am very happy with them. Will more than do the job for gear cable ends etc!

Just to confirm that you can fit a 5spd tower from an 02J into an 02A and use R32 6 speed cables and lever assembly in a mk2 and it all works as it should :p

Yep, the bit inside the car is from an R32 + the cables. It's usually under the car.

Shift tower is the gubbins that drops into the top of the gearbox to actuate the selectors.

where did you get that from then? other than a R32-you didn't rob it out of clares did you;)

any reason your running it in the car, as aspposed to under it? other than looks?

you running a shift tower to be able to run the R32 set up or is it for a rod box to cable?

sorry if these are daft questions, but wanting to do the same in the mk1

Isn't it just effectively a case of using a "Mk4" shift tower (& gear lever assembly), rather than it being "Mk4 R32" ?

    the whole kit and caboodle?
from the shifter to the gearbox parts?

Just the shifter tower & shift weights, lifted out of a Mk4 'box, and retro-fittable into Mk2/3 02A or 02J. Plus Mk4 lever & cables.

Yep, it's as Chris has explained......, I'm probably trying to glamourise the fact mine's off an R32.. lol!!

I think the 6 speed levers are longer too so dan-ish said.

Jon, I wanted in the car to make the gear lever higher up, nearer the steering wheel.

same bits on the 02m 4 cyl as standard so no need to plunder an R32, can be found on cupras too
