Is it possible to do away with the isv as my new throttle body(see big tb thread) has no throttle position switch and i believe this controls the isv??
Read somewhere about using a mk1 8v 1 but how will i wire it up?

    Any help appreciated

Some people use the auxilary air valve on mk1 16v conversions, some don't bother - it'll be a tw*t when it's cold if you don't use one I would think.

I haven't got one and it idles bang on 900rpm straight from cold. Admittedly it took me two days of pissing about with the fuelling/warmup enrichments, which you can't do ;)

To be fair, I don't think my ISV worked before it went binwards anyway. You'll probably find that you'd need to up your idle speed a bit when it's cold.

I`ve used mine with no ISV and it was a pain in the arse! I`d be tempted to try and get the switches working on it personally. If you use it in winter with no isv it`ll be a complete dog!

It`s a bodge for cold starting though, rather than an idle stabiliser, after saying that at least your car runs

All it needs is an ignition feed for the bi-metalic strip inside. It will only help with cold running and is a bit of a bodge.

The ground for them is wired to the thermo time switch (well it is on old Fords etc)

My ISV on the first 16v i had was crap. During the colder months it ran like a female dog on startup with it disconnected, but on warmer mornings/days it ran fine.

Suck it and see, as they say. Disconnect it and see how the car runs.

As far as I remember the aux air valve is feed with 12V from the fuel pump relay output and earths through a normal earthing point, on the MK1 anyway.
