Prepping my mk2 16v as a trackday / ringcar and looking to buy a 3 point harness, can I bolt the two front links over my existing OE seatbelt points and have both systems?

dont want to have to put on a full race harness everytime I get in the car and would like to retain the existing belts for comfort on the way to tracks / quick blast on a sunday etc

    Any one done this before?

The trick is to buy a harness that uses clips over eye bolts to mount. The eye bolts replace the existing seat belt anchor bolts down each side of the seat.

You will then need to either:

    * use a VW subrame to mount your seat on, hence you are left with the frame mount for the seat belt clip to your left

    * or use a race seat mount and get round the loss of seat frame anchor point by using an eye bolt and proper backing plate to create a new anchor point on the tunnel. On this anchor point, use a short rear lapbelt section to clip the road car seat belt in with.

How, I assume you doubled up on the lower mounting points? Thats what I was hoping to do.

Yip Ive got both sets of belts, safety devices harness= uses banjo fitting & can use original bolts- tho I used new ones for safety.

Harneses on the road are such a pain in the ar$e.

I've done the same, only trouble I find is the seat belt no longer pivots and it gets tangled up/twisted easily, + the seat belt slider on the B pillar doesn't allow the seat belt to be dropped low enough for it to be comfortable to wear. [xx(] My seat is very low.

Suggest you fit `R` clips in the spring - loaded `tang` of the harness clip - ensures security of the attachment.
