Fitted a new rad to my car today, and reused the brand new blue coolant that was in there with the old one.

Spilt a bit whilst doing it, so i need to top up just a full coolant bottle's worth of coolant. Ive got the better Red Coolant sitting on my shelf, but i was wondering if you could mix blue and red together and its ok, or if you shouldnt mix at all?

The older G12 coolant will not mix with G11. However, G12+ will mix with G11 just fine!!

Assuming VW coolants being used of course.

    as Deako said:thumbup:

There was a warning of severe corrosion problems when mixing G11 & G12 in a VW bulletin, said if they were mixed the cooling system must be thoroughly flushed and only one type used (that was before the G12+ was brought out)

    Ooh, fair play.

The blue stuff is the standard one you get from GSF, and my red one (ready to put in) is 5 star stuff that i got from a warehouse...

VAG probably, and then one of the sheep started declaring that it's got to be best, someone took a bottle to Wolfsburg once

Same thing with toyotas, you are only supposed to fill them with Forlife. 14L in an MR2 at about 12 per 5L [:x]

I have heard that some of the cheaper brand antifreeze doesnt have effective rust inhibitors.
