doesnt sound right no, they should be pointing up and away from each other, like this |\ /| edit: remember the crank turns twice for every single rotation of the cams, so spin it another 180 degrees
the tappets should sit level with the cam lobe points 10 to 2 ish like this \ / if you see what i mean ahh jonny!!!
OK spun the cam round to what looks like the right position, now the marks on the cam pull are way out, whats going on , I'd post a picture but the wife has taken it to school with her[/IMG]
thats at tdc now, take the sprocket off and flip it round as it can go on both ways. the other marks are for when the sprocket is fitted to the intermediate shaft edit: and as said chec k the woodruf key is present
OK put it all back together again, seems the pulley was on back to front and timing was out, That was a garage not me. turned the key starts like a dream , just got her ticking over now lovely, 1 last question does the rad fan blow on to the radiator or draw air through
woohoo radiator pulls air thru into the engine bay, same direction as airflow would be when driving along
A big THANKS to mike h, drunkenalan, and rubjonny for all your advice getting my golf back on the road,I couldn't of done it without it. just the last few bits to do IE tighten leaking pipes and sort the gear box linkages as changing gear is like moving a spatula in a 100 gallon drum, and at some point i might need reverse lol
