Yup being made redundant on 31st May, and prospects with the car secrity industry are looking pretty bleak. not many places hiring, and the only ones that seem to be outfits that encourage there installers to "cowboy". i can't work like that, been forced into that situation before and i couldn't sleep at night. time for a change of direction for me i think. got some ideas in the pipeline, only the prospect of interviews and form filling is daunting. Not leaving the world of Dubs though, will still be on hand to help out with alarm related problem where i can.

Yeah go self employed mate, there's always people wanting to get an alarm fitted to their new pride and joy.

You could do a mobile service, thats how i got my last two alarms done, at work. ;)

cheers for support guys, have given self employed some consideration. yes there's loads people out there want alarms and that, but not enough on a regular enough basis. there would be days or weeks when there's no work. there's too many cowboys out there willing to fit for virtually nothing and it's human nature for people to go with the cheapest. one of the firms expressing an interest in me have told me how much their "top fitter" earns in an average week. they pay by the job on self employed basis. now i know how much the product costs and how much they supply and fit for,the fitter won't be taking all the profit , the firm will have some of that, BUT even if he did and there's no way anyone can earn the kind of money they're talking about AND do the job to a satisfactory standard.
No, pretty well decided, I want out. will still do the private jobs, it's in my nature to help people out. now looking at completly different career path. only the prospect of filling in forms and interviews is not appealling.

That what I done couple of years ago.
Glad to of got out just as it was goning down,
so many cars come with good equipment, it's only a select few that go a step further, mostly because they have too!!
And most people fit the cheapest they can, I've seen some rubbish fittings, I wonder why they go wrong??
it's not easy as Stud says few & far between at the end of the day [:s]
I was lucky, back in the days when cellphone handfree took couple hours to fit & cost 's [:D]

You have lots of chances having Auto wiring experince, Its just finding the right thing!

Well, what ever happens make sure your happy doing it. Stud fitted my alarm (clifford concept 500) and a boot solenoid yesterday. Extremely good job, knows exactly what hes doing and answered every question I had. Can't reccomend him highly enough, he takes pride in his work. If anyone needs an alarm, this is the man to see.

Good luck in what you choose to do - will catch up at No-Rice.
