Anyone know of a place capable of welding a cast iron manifold? I understand this is pretty specialist work and would be better off done by someone that knows what they are doing. its for a Jaguar XJR buying new is very very expensive. Im in berkshire so the closer the better.

Try The Blacksmith's Shop at Langley, or Thames Valley Forge in Maidenhead. It'll need to be heated red hot to work I think. Try google for their phone numbers.

I would never have thought of that. I called up langley, they need to see the manifold so will take it to them when off the car.

Its meant to be hot to stop it cracking, but when my S2 manifold was done it was fine without pre heating. You do need special cast welding rods if using arc.

i've welded alot of cast manifolds before.. do atleast 4 a week at work.. i use tig welding as you can use the torch to preheat the area, need to use plenty of sloap out to stop it cracking tho! easily done if u kno what your doing to be honest.. if your going to use arc or mig welding it should be preheated 1st otherwise it will usually crack down the middle of the weld..
