I want to get a Category 1 Alarm for my MK3 GTI, that I can connect up to the Central Locking so that I can have remote central locking. I like the look of the Cliffords, but would ideally like to pay a lot less for it. Are there any alternative Cat 1 alarms that you can reccomend?
Any Cat 1 alarm will have the facility to connect up to remote locking. Most alarm problems are caused by bad installation rather than equipment failure, so look for a decent installer, by word of mouth rather than big adverts! I've had a Gemel Cat 1 on my Mk3 GTI for over two years with no problems whatsoever.
I paid about 300, and I would think you'd still pay a similar amount. Have seen some Cat 1 installs advertised for under 250 but these tend to be the unknown mobile installers who throw the alarm in and then disappear, leaving you with a siren going off every time the wind blows on your car etc. Where are you located?
Try contacting Studweiser on here, he's a much recommended installer based in Croydon. I know he deals with Clifford stuff usually, but may be able to supply a cheaper Cat 1.
