Does my car need a car?

It’s a 8v shell with a 16v engine which doesn’t have a cat. It failed it’s mot in may on a lot of stuff but the first test didn’t say it needed a cat. I’ve taken it to a second garage and they say I need one.

The reg is B247 DUK if you need more info. I’ve asked the garage to do all the work except the cat and I’ll take it back to the first garage if they definitely say it needs one.

    Any help is appreciated

It shouldn't need a cat, it goes by the date of first registration.

Unless the law has changed in the last few years. In the case of an engine swap it was always what's older? the engine or the car.
