Finally managed to fix the tail gate lock completely corroded up couldn't even get the key in but now all working perfectly I don't have the handbook just wondering if the lock is supposed to activate the central locking.
On a mk2 golf all of the lock activation is performed by the drivers side door lock actuator, the rest of the locks can be locked and unlocked separately without affecting any other Hope this helps
If you're asking about your Mk.3, factory fitted central locking does extend to the tailgate and fuel filler, but only with an air pipe. A vacuum unit operates a pushrod, to move a linkage on the back of the lock cylinder, so that pushing in the button either strikes or misses the latch release linkage as appropriate. There's usually no electrical connection to the central locking, so it doesn't lock/unlock the rest of the system. A factory-fitted alarm may have an override switch (or switches) to allow the tailgate to be opened while the alarm is set. The key slot being vertical should have the tailgate locked and isolated from the central locking, while when horizontal it's tied into the system. Turning the key 45 degrees c/w past vertical allows the tailgate to be opened regardless of the central locking.
mk2 cl only activated from driver side, mk3 also from passenger side. also with mk3 if it has factory electric windows you can do total closure from the lock as well (not sure if only driver or both drivber and passenger)
It is from both sides - the additional micro-switches housed in the latches are in parallel. The number of times I've gone to put something in the car, with something parked a bit too close, and simply lowered the windows to avoid the risk of dinging whatever it is alongside.. F**d made much of 'global closure' on launching Focus 2, I thought 'now you're catching up?' Hmm, F**d global closure, that mightn't be a bad thing. The closure routine also applies to the factory-fitted sunroof ; once all windows are seen as closed, it then closes the sunroof.
