    Hi

May have the chance of getting some merc wheels for the car in spring, so preparation is needed.

What i need to know is how do i go about changing to 5 stud? [:o)]
I know vr6 hubs will go on but how easy is this to do front and back. Are there any other options? will I need the front calipers too as 16v ones may not fit the larger hub?

Once that's done i should be able to get some adapters hopefully?

Thank you if you can sort me out

can't you just use 4 stud merc adapters? rather than changing to 5 stud first as you're not really gaining anything doing that.

to convert to 5 stud on the back it's just a case of changing discs.

    Cheers :)

Well i was thinking about that option but surely it will not be a very strong and long lasting option?
i may be wrong but shouldn't 5 studs offer more support than a 4stud firment with a 5 on top?

not really, as long as they're properly seated on the hub- adapters should be hub-cebtric so the bolts shouldn't be taking all the stress anyway

lovely, that sounds a far simpler option.
Was just thinking of the stress with increased power in the future, but that isn't for some time anyway.

Just have to work out where to get the adaptors from and whether the offset will fit under the arch.

    Thanks for your help mate!

4*100 to merc 5*112 adapters are not physically possible as the bolt holes will over lap. If you want merc wheels then you need to change your hubs to 5 stud 5x100 pcd and get H&R 5x100 to 5x112 adapters like the silver surfer mk2 used to have.

    right i see.

So back to where i started.
To get the 5 stud hubs on, i need a vr6 hub(+ callipers?? would this be wise and upgrade from 256mm to 280mm) Are there other vw's that i could get these off?

How easy is it to change the front hubs? in haynes manual it dont sound to difficult. As Darrynk said the backs are just a case of changing the discs.

    Thanks

I think you could use any mk3 gti or vr6 parts

Just read that you need the wishbones, brakes and maybe driveshafts as well as the hubs to go through with this.

Are these items a straight swap or is there some fiddling and adapting required to fit them on the Mk2??

1990- did you do your swap yourself?
