I have an 1991 GTI california emissions car and cannot figure out how to read the code or codes from my car. I have a CEL that keeps coming on and 2 dual connectors under shifter boot but dont know how to wire them up to get codes.. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated..

Are they 2 pin connectors, rectangular in shape?
    91, mk2 or mk3?
    CIS, Motronic or Digifant?

Ok. We had the same in Dad's Audi quattro, i converted it to a newer 16 pin Obd plug.
Black plug is power and ground, ground being either black or brown wire.
Other one is the data. Which go to pin 7 and 15 on a standard newer 16 pin obd.
Made it a lot easier to read codes.
Grab a 16 pin from a later VAG car and wire it up. There's adapters available online either

Though tbh, there's so little on these, it's probably a lambda issue.
