Just curious but who painted the logo on the track at the Ring? How long has it been there and am I right in thinking it's no longer there?
The CGTI logo lasted from 2008 to 2012 before resurfacing took it off and only the very top was visible when I last looked. 'Decided in England, defined in Germany' Uh, ho, this lot again
For old times' sake, the day after it was first done: Though it was painted every year from 2008 - 2011, this is 'mid-year', later on:
White masonry paint. It's intentional for photography, to get it noticed and so it could be seen in Autocar, Evo etc - wherever it turned up There is not as much PR to gain from doing it again. Various will remember the webcam we used to put a CGTI numberplate beneath. That PR stunt had a shelf-life and so the 'team' moved on. The 'Ring have started removing large paintings from the track lately and it's not clear why, which makes you wonder if they've decided there is a limit now. There was originally some contention on the location of this one, because it is 'on the line' into the corner, particularly for bikes. The paint was mixed with sand, but people don't know that. Having said that, it survived the test of time and so must have been 'ok'. It was originally going to be way further up the hill, but it was not visible and the effort wasn't being gone to for anything but a publicity stunt. There is a video of the stencil being brought down the hill before the final position was agreed and the paint went on, but it's never been published! More pictures.. The Ring is now under new ownership so they may well be tidying the track up. A big thumbs up to all involved in getting the logo there in the first place.
Next time for a Red & Blue quick job! Permanent industrial line marker. I'm sure there's better versions in smaller quantities. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6-X-Surve...Varnish_MJ&hash=item2ebf20ad80#ht_1828wt_1192
The spray is not really a patch on proper roller trays and I'm sure it still comes off. The original " 'Ave it" was done with line marker spray, however permanent, and you can see here how different it is compared to the later years when it was masking taped, rollered and photoshopped by the boys in Woking!
