    they are good value for money just now though later low mileage ones still command good money

    they do rust in places front wings and the front of the sill are common

    Hi,

    What would people consider to be high mileage? I'm looking for FSH, CAM belt change (plus water pump etc), plus evidence of the other bits such as DSG oil change... is 70k high?

    The MK5 GTI seems to be getting more expensive if anything!

    Mines on 102,000 and has had a new camshaft in the past. It still runs sweet and is nice and tight.

    Watch out for the 'top end rattle'. The chain linking the two cams together, the associated tensioner and oil control rings can wear and the parts bill is not cheap (as I'm currently finding out, decidedly unimpressed! [xx(]).

    Would be hard/easy/cheaper to swap the entire engine out for an S3 unit?
