Bought coilovers for my 2002 mk4 2.8 4motion a few months ago and i hate them.
Everytime i hit a small hole in the road i feel i have been swallowed up in a man hole. the noise is like someone letting a bomb off under the arch.
Any ideas why this is happening? They seem fine and not busted and just passed an M.O.T so i am at a lose on why they are so crap

that may be why cheep coilovers can give a harsh ride
all so did you fit new top mounts when you fitted the coilovers
and how are your wishbone bushs

Ive never really seen that kit tbh.

Ive been in a MK4 which had JOM coilovers (iirc) and that was quite harsh, nothing like you have explained above though.

Not sure what could be causing it tbh. How much have you lowered it by?

Is it catching the ARB by any chance. Also what size wheels are you running?

thet are set a little lower than standard because i have speed bumps where i stay. i am that disapointed with them i am going to buy new standard ones and use lowering springs that were on the car when i got it. i just had it checked over by a garage before my MOT and it passed the MOT with flying colours. And thats a northern ireland MOT centre

This is what kind of put me off getting coilovers, or even lowering my Mk4 TBH.

I like the comfort side now, probably because its my daily. My Mk2 is lowerd 60mm, but it feels great in that.

You would definitely be better off with a G-Max shock and lowered spring kit for your MK4. Many people have commented on that kit, as its superb quality, fairly priced and the ride is great to.

everything tight when bolted back up? not just the top mounts

how old are the Anti roll bar bushes? how much clearance around antiroll bar to the drive shaft?

all common reasons for extra noise on the front

on the rear are there anything around the springs to stop movment as i''ve seen on most mk4's (bolting them to the rear axle (on FWD anyways))

Not sure? Had it checked over for an Mot and then it had an Mot here in northern Ireland. As you probably already know we have Mot centres here instead of a normal garage for an mot so it gets a good ragging by the machine that twists and bounces the car about and it past. That's why I am at a lose.
I am going to get everything renewed, wish bones, track rod ends, top mounts, suspension etc. I did it with my 1.8t with polly bushes and thicker anti roll Barr and it 100% rigid and handles great.

the Anti roll bar clearance is not as big problem on the 4motion like it is on most mk4's
as it has a diffrent setup
but the Anti roll bar links can wear as can the bush's

if you are going down the road of changing all that lot
you may as well look in to fitting tt/r32 hubs and wishbones/ball joint this helps a lot if you are lowering
    it
i plan to do this in the summer
it dose cost a bit more but makes it handle a lot better

mate not being funny but your putting cheapo coilies on a super heavy car never gona work!... ive got a 4mo myself had quite a few suspension setups and the best ive had at budget money is the weitec hicon GT's fantastic ride very comfy and even on the lowest with the rear adjusters taken out its still perfectly fine over potholes

Hi mate I will put my hands up to cheeping out on the coilovers. I have my own golf and have spent 7 grand on it and when I bought the wife a 4motion for me to drive. Lol I didn't want to spend a fortune but with an exaust, induction, map, wheels and nav in thought the coilovers would be ok but ye I see they are ****. I had to buy new brakes aswell so I now am at a loss. I want now want to tune and style the wifes car only because I love the 4 wheel drive
